What if we just stopped paying taxes?

Where there's a will there (might) be a way.

"Like many other blue states, Minnesota pays more to the federal government than it takes in. But why should the state continue to subsidize a government bent on destroying it? What if it just … didn’t?" A very good question.

Partly inspired by this Lisa Needham piece. Note that we don't "just stop." We pay the state, so all individuals and business have paid taxes on time and in full. The money is there and the feds can have it as long as they aren't illegally stealing from us.

Taxation without representation is a rallying cry that echoes through US history. No less loudly than now as Americans all pay taxes to fund the solutions MAGA uses to consolidate its power. How do we fight back? Not reactively. We need some creative thinking: www.publicnotice.co/p/minnesota-...

#SoftSecession Just keep thinkin’ @snipy.bsky.social, that’s what you’re good at. “[E]very Minnesotan paid $21,106 to the federal government in fiscal year 2024. California? $20,432. How about those red states? Texas? $13,340. Mississippi? $5,161. You get the picture.”

It seems that Blue States are going to have to start taking the risk. If the fed govt is broke then how can they enforce or enact any act of retribution? I say break the fed govt and see what happens. Forces don’t oppress unless there’s something in it for them. People resist for free.

Our taxes paid for this. Does that make us all accomplices?

My point *wasn't* that freezing federal taxes is some magic cure to fascism. But it could be one tool that slows down the onslaught. Lots of people, including many state lawmakers, are considering this. Talking about it doesn't make people stupid. www.publicnotice.co/p/minnesota-...
